GEYLANG BAN MIAN: IF YOU ARE PATIENT AND LIKE BAN MIAN

I had the opportunity to travel to the east side recently for an errand.

The Geylang Ban Mian was on the itinerary as well.

The chilli is nice and very similar to that offered by Qiulian Ban Mian in the mid-90s.

Some people like their ban mian soupy. Some like it dry.

I decided to go for the dry since I can have the soup on the side.

It smelt like Bovril the moment the bowl landed on the table 35 mins later.

Seriously, that beefy smell emanated from whatever sauce they used in that dark concoction.

But it didn't taste like Bovril.

4.1/5
The Geylang Ban Mian. Only if you are in the east and not pressed for time.

THE LEGENDARY WAH KEE PRAWN NOODLES IS BACK

The man is back.

The queue is as long as before.

The taste is unsurpassed as before.

Maybe my mom's version is slightly better ;P

THE LOUSIEST PIZZA I'VE EVER HAD: PEPERONI PIZZERIA

I like pizzas.

They are a source of comfort food. Hot, cheesy, with some burnt bits in the crust, pizzas are meant to provide us with that feeling that good food can be had in a single slice.

Therefore, what better alternatives can there be on a rainy weekend. We had pizza.

Peperoni Pizzeria at Zion Road to be exact.

We ordered a large Saucisson with extra toppings. It arrived lukewarm/room temperature with the extra toppings looking like an afterthought. It was as though someone forgot to load up the extras. It was as though the kitchen smacked of slackness.

1/5
If this was the standard that Peperoni Pizzeria dished out every single time, I must say their clientele is very forgiving.

By the way, I did not send in my pizza for 'rectification'. Food not done right the first time will not be done right again.

P.S. I cannot imagine such a pizzeria existing under the Les Amis Group.

HUP SENG DUCK RICE: ARE YOU A FOOD WUSS?

Psst.

There's good food in Sin Ming.

But then again, if you are a self-proclaimed foodie, you would have known that by now.

If you don't, then drop your foodie label.

Anyway, I digressed.

I love braised duck. I love kiam chye duck soup. And Hup Seng Duck Rice combines both nicely.

If you can't carry lots of stuff in one tray, get someone else to take over.

Braised duck 4/5. Duck soup 4.5/5.

By the way, if you are not a food wuss, get the duck neck, gizzard and liver. The braised pork belly is great too!

TABLE 24: GREAT FLAVOURS, LUKEWARM DISHES

If you like lukewarm dishes, Table 24 is the place for you. I just wished things were much hotter. But you can peek into the kitchen and observed that things are very OMO.

No wonder.

Forget the bread.

Hokkaido scallops 3.75/5

Crab cakes 4/5

Seared hangar steak 4.25/5
